hair replacement

If you are having a thinning hair problem or you want to change your hair style one of the many hair pieces on the market may be what you need. You owe it to yourself to find out how much better today’s men’s hairpieces are than their relatives from fifty years ago. Modern technology has give us a solution to hair loss that is natural looking and is very cost effective when compared to other methods of hair loss control.

The earliest known proof of artificial hair piece use was in Egypt during the time of the pharaohs. It is said that people took to cutting off their hair do to the number of bugs and vermin that tended to live there. They then used a covering on the head to hide the baldness. The richer a person was meant the better the cover could be and the more natural it would look. Most of the coverings for the upper class were human hair pieces.

It wasn’t until about the 16th century that people again started to wear wigs to cover up hair loss. These were not very natural looking but they did cover the bald spots.

Men’s Hair Pieces

There are several choices to be made when a man is looking to purchase a hair piece. The biggest choice is whether the wig will be custom made or will be bought ready made. It goes without saying that the more expensive the wig is the better it is going to fit and look. This will make it much more difficult for others to spot the hair piece.

Custom made hair pieces generally have a much better fit since the shape of the head is taken into consideration. The better fit means it looks much more natural than a one size fits all approach.

Real Hair Pieces

High quality wigs are also usually real hair pieces instead of being made from some man made fiber. This means the hair looks natural since it is real hair. Hair Piece companies keep a large selection of hair on hand and matching the patient’s hair to the hair that will be used for the piece is very easy. Generally the better quality wigs are made of a silicone base as it is much more natural looking than the cheaper net alternative. Knot size is also tightly controlled with a more expensive version which also makes the wig harder to spot.

The better wigs are attached with a water resistant brush on glue that will keep the hair piece on even in the pool or during high winds. Cheaper alternatives include clip on hair pieces and double sided adhesive tape. Neither of these hold as well as the brush on adhesive and the tape is not water resistant.

The cost of hair pieces can vary dramatically. Very cheap, ready made pieces can be had for about $40 to $50. The average good quality hair piece goes for about $400 but some very high end units will cost upwards of $4000. The thing to remember is that with hair pieces you really do get what you pay for and if you just want a rug on your head you can one real cheap. But if you want a solution that looks natural be ready to pay more for that.
