hair restoration

If you are losing your hair then I am sure you are interested in determining how much hair restoration costs vary from treatment to treatment and between locations. It is really surprising how the cost of hair restoration can vary depending on what method you decide is best for you. With all the baby boomers in middle age and now starting into retirement age the number of people looking for ways to increase the amount of hair on their head is growing every day. This means more and more medical practitioners are looking for new discoveries to help with this problem.

The most exciting new develops are in the surgical aspects of hair restoration. In particular, using hair implants or hair grafts in a hair transplantation surgical procedure to get natural hair growing in the bald spot once again. This process has been used since the 1950’s when it was known as hair plug therapy but new advances have made it much better. The name hair plug originated when people realized that the results of these early transplant surgeries looked like the plugs of hair that are used on cheap dolls. Micro-surgical techniques were not available so the only option cosmetic surgeons had was to move clumps of hair and scalp at a time and sew them into the balding area. Needless to say this did not give a very good result at all.

Although hair restoration surgery costs are fairly expensive, the new techniques available give a very good result. The standard method of hair implantation, which the hair restoration cost is based on, was developed during the 1990’s. Instead of removing a section of scalp with good hair growth and then inserting the entire patch into the scalp, the new method involves removing the individual hair follicles from the patch before insertion. This allows the cosmetic surgeon to have much better control over the placement of the individual hairs so they can be placed in a way that is much more natural. Now it is possible to insert the hair units in such a way that they lay in the same directions as the hairs adjoining the bald spot.

This hair implantation technique gives a very nice result because the hairs match the surrounding hair in color, texture, and curl. This makes the inserts impossible to tell from the hair that was not inserted. The only tell tale marks are slight scars at the back of the head where the hair grafts were removed from. This scarring can be almost eliminated with the use of scar lessening medications.

The medical hair restoration costs for the implantation procedure vary depending on a lot of factors. These include such things as the size of the balding area to be treated and the difficulty of finding a good hair graft donor area to utilize for the implanted hair follicles. Generally, you can expect to spend between $3 and $7 for each implant and it usually takes from several hundred to a few thousand of these depending on how advanced the baldness is. This hair restoration price may seem expensive but you have to remember that it is a one shot charge. Once the procedure is done you can expect these transplanted hair grafts to continue to grow for years in the future giving you a very natural looking head of hair again.

Although the medical hair restoration cost is not cheap it does offer the best alternative to getting hair growing in your bald spot once again. The majority of hair restoration products available on the market today do not do too much to re-grow hair once it has been lost. Their main function is to stop hair loss as opposed to getting hair growing again.

If you are serious about hair restoration I would definitely look into the hair implantation procedures that are being performed with great results all over the world. These hair restoration costs may be fairly expensive but what is your self-esteem worth?
