Male Pattern Baldness is a scourge that has been affecting men for millennia. It seems that every society has had some form of hair loss remedy or baldness cure that was meant to start hair growing again once it had fallen out. This is really the problem though, no one thinks about treating the male pattern baldness until it is too late. Once the hair follicles have stopped producing hair material there is not much that can be done to revitalize them once again. Even modern drugs won’t help in this area.
If you are serious about a male pattern hair loss treatment then the key is to start young at the first signs of undue hair loss. When you start noticing extras hairs being left on your pillow or at the bottom of the shower in the morning then it is time to using hair growth products to keep what hair you still have. The main cause of hair loss in men, this male pattern baldness, is a genetic condition that can be passed down from either the mother’s or the father’s side of the family. Thus if you have uncles with hair loss your chances are greatly improved that you will also be suffering balding and baldness. You are especially at risk if both your father’s and your mother’s brothers are bald or balding.
If you know you are susceptible to premature hair loss then the best thing to do is to start a treatment early. The two drugs that are approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration are both most effective when started at the first signs of the problem. Finasteride, the first drug, is taken in tablet form and limits the production of DHT which is the cause of male pattern baldness. The DHT actually bonds with receptors on the hair follicles, or hair roots, and cause the follicles to stop the production of hair material. By limiting the levels of this hormonal metabolite you can stave of the hair loss for a long time.
The second approved drug that has shown efficacy at keeping your hair is Minoxidil. This is usually sold under the brand name Rogaine and is applied to the scalp twice a day. Minoxidil actually seems to limit the bonding of the DHT to the follicles by bonding with the receptors itself. This drug is not as effective as Finasteride but over half the men who use it show relief from hair loss caused by male pattern baldness.
If you don’t start early with these two treatments then about the only men’s hair restoration possibilities you have left is to get hair transplantation surgery. A good hair implant procedure can give you growing hair in your bald spot and it will last for years to come.
