Laser hair restoration is a relatively new form of hair loss treatment which appears, at this fairly early stage of use, to be potentially very effective. It has shown especially good results when treatment is begun at the early stages of hair loss, and when combined with other known hair loss treatment products. While it may not work as well for all who undergo this treatment, many people have not only been able to halt their hair loss, but they have also grown back thick, healthy hair.

There is more than one type of laser hair restoration treatment, although they all rely on the same basic principle. One typical in house treatment, the Luce LDS 100 Laser, requires you to sit under a dome shaped apparatus. Low energy laser lights flash on the inside of this dome, and the energy produced from this is absorbed by the skin on the scalp, where it stimulates the blood supply to this area. Apparently, this is generally very successful, and has been proven to stimulate growth of resting hairs, up to seventy percent. Also, an added plus is that the restored hair is healthier too, as the revived hair follicles absorb more nutrients!

Normally, a series of treatment is required for optimum hair growth. Those undergoing this treatment also are encouraged to combine it with other hair loss treatment products such as medication when appropriate or special hair shampoos and topical treatments. Combining treatments in this way makes it even more effective.

For those interested in home laser hair restoration, a hand held laser device commonly called a laser comb or laser hair brush, can be used. As the comb passes over the hair and scalp it automatically gives off laser energy to the entire scalp area. While not as effective as going for in-house laser treatment, this works very well when used in conjunction with on-going treatment, and helps restore faster hair growth. They are also often used to speed up healing in situations where surgical hair restoration has taken place. It is recommended that you use the laser brush three times a week for maximum hair regrowth, for about ten to fifteen minutes at a time. Using it more frequently than this does not stimulate faster hair regrowth.

Low level light, or cold laser hair restoration, is sometimes referred to as low power laser therapy. Again, it stimulates the blood flow to the scalp area, thus encouraging hair follicle growth, without breaking the skin or penetrating as deeply as the Luce LDS 100 laser treatment.
