One fairly cheap and quite easy cure to baldness and hair loss caused by male pattern baldness is the toupee. Toupees have been used by men for centuries in order to cover up the fact that they were losing hair on the top and crown of their heads. These are the classic areas for loss of hair when a man is suffering from pattern baldness.
The toupee has been used for so long that there is evidence for their use found in Egyptian tombs dating from over 5000 years ago. It was very common for men in ancient Greek and Roman times to wear some sort of covering on their heads in order to hide the fact that they were balding. It is claimed that the Roman emperor Julius Caesar wore his ceremonial wreath on his head in order to cover up the fact that he was bald. Also at this time some men actually painted their head to make it appear as though they had hair. This is reminiscent of the product advertised on late night TV years ago called Spray Hair. The product came in a spray can and coated what hair the man had to make it thicker and also colored the scalp to hide the balding area.
Toupee use seems to have been on the decline the last few years as sales of men’s toupees have decreased every year. It appears as though men are choosing to shave their head and accept their baldness or have a hair transplantation procedure performed. Men’s toupees do seem to work well at covering the bald spot and they are relatively inexpensive. The problem is they have developed such a bad name do to all the negative publicity. Who hasn’t seem a man wearing a toup who hasn’t been embarrassed when it fell of into his soup or the fish bowl. Many manufacturers are trying to limit the damage done by these stereotypes by changing the name of the product to hair piece or hair replacement system.
Today’s hair piece is much different than the ones of a few decades ago. New adhesives, including those found on toupee tape, have been developed to keep the hair in place even when swimming and running. Before some sort of elastic band was used to keep the piece on and the band often times slipped off. The base material has also changed to the point that it is almost unnoticeable. A lace base looks so natural that it can even be employed at the hair line.
If you are balding or already have bald spots then look into getting more information about a toupee. It is usually recommended that the wearer have three toupees. He wears one, has one getting cleaned, and leaves one in storage for an emergency. Start to day to find out how effective a toupee system can be.
