Hair loss is a growing concern for millions of Americans. How we look has a lot to do with how we feel about ourselves and when hair loss begins, most people will do anything to prevent it. If you’re looking for ways to reduce your hair loss, or possibly regrow your hair, this article is for you. We’ll discuss the truth about vitamins for hair loss. By the end of this article you’ll have a good idea of which vitamins to pick up the next time you’re in a health food store and why those vitamins are likely to help you in your search for a fuller, thicker head of hair.
Do Hair Loss Vitamins Really Help?
The old adage, “You are what you eat” does seem to apply to vitamins for hair loss. Your body uses the nutrition you provide it to build healthy hair. If you starve your body of vital nutrients, including vitamins, there is no way for your body to grow thick, strong, shiny hair.
What Are the Best Vitamins for Hair Loss?
Vitamin A – Important for your general health, vitamin A can also really help with hair loss because it can help to lubricate the hair root. You can find vitamin A in many pill forms or you can find it natural food sources like eggs, meat, green leafy veggies and most red, orange and yellow vegetables.
The B Vitamins – If you’re looking for vitamins for hair loss in women, make sure you include the B vitamins. One of the causes of hair loss can be stress, and the B vitamins are well known for their ability to help you cope with stress. Niacin (B3) can help increase blood flow to the scalp. Biotin is thought to help prevent premature graying.
Vitamin E – This vitamin is important because it can increase the blood flow and circulation to the scalp. The more blood you have flowing to your hair follicles, the more nutrients they will have to call on to build healthy hair.
If you are looking for natural ways to stop or reverse hair loss, consider adding a good multi-vitamin that you take daily. Be sure to read the label to ensure that the vitamins we’ve recommended are included. You may also be able to find ‘hair loss’ vitamin formulations. If you take your vitamins regularly you are likely to notice a difference in the way your hair looks and feels within a few weeks.

While botanically-derived substances can certainly play a positive role in ameliorating the onset and progression of pattern hair loss, ‘good nutrition’ has not, per se, been demonstrated to have an effect. It is important to think about the biochemical context under which pattern hair loss occurs. To begin, it has been conclusively shown that steroid hormone metabolic events, and specifically the androgen 5-alpha DHT sets hair loss in motion. Recent studies, including one in which I was a coauthor, point to pathologic inflammation as a contributing factor in the disease process.
